I like to call it magic.
A cup of morning coffee or tea that doesn’t give you jitters, doesn’t make you hungrier, gain weight, crave sugar, and doesn’t crash you down later in the day.
Also, it tastes like heaven. But is totally and completely a superfood.
So, after weeks of posting my little daily cups of deliciousness on my IG story, I wanted to give you guys a little how-to guide.
And a why-to on my most favorite obsession of late: a magical little coconut oil/butter/collagen blended coffee/tea recipe to help you dominate your day (whatever it entails).
So, I’m gonna start by saying what I know half of you are thinking:
Wait.. like actual butter in your coffee or tea? That’s really gross sounding. Or: Mmm.. yeah. That sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen.
Or what my ladies won’t say out loud but I know it’s in there somewhere:
That’s so fatty.
So, here’s the thing. It’s time to shift a little bit. Fat is good. For you (and obviously, tasting). Especially the kind that naturally occurs in our food.
Butter– if it’s grass-fed—is actually an AMAZING healthy fat, much higher in inflammatory omega 3 fatty acids, and vitamin K2 than regular butter alone. And it helps boost cell membrane production and overall health, regulate hormones and ramp up your energy.
And, it helps to keep you full.
Combining a little bit of it, plus some organic extra virgin coconut oil (another amazing superfood type of healthy fat for metabolism, skin and gut health), plus your favorite coffee of tea creates this unreal delicious, satisfying bev, that foams up like a amazing latte.
It’s a little spin on what’s known as something called bulletproof coffee.
And with these healthy fats, you don’t get a crash in energy like regular coffee or caffeinated tea– instead it’s a boost that keeps on boosting you well into the afternoon. Meaning energy and productivity central (yessss please).
I love adding a scoop of this grass-fed collagen peptide powder too.
I know it sounds weird, but it’s unflavored, but has a great CLEAN and totally natural form of protein, plus incredible anti-aging/anti-wrinkle/skin boosting properties, and gut healing properties too.
This combo has been filling me up mid-morning, and keeping me going until well past 2pm when I need a little something for lunch. No crash, no hunger pains, and a lot of feeling like beyonce at my desk or running around town.
Here’s how to try it at home:
Step 1: brew your organic coffee or tea (or matcha or yerba), per usual. Factor in a few minutes of steeping for tea, or do this part ahead of time in one big batch for the week.
I love all options, just depending on my mood and the day. This last week I just can’t stop with a combo of this Chocolate Rooibos tea + Peppermint Green tea. It’s like a chocolate peppermint mocha…but without any guilt!
If you can’t do dairy at all, try an organic ghee. It’s clarified butter without any of the milk solids, and it tastes great.
Step 3: Add your collagen powder (if using). Also optional to add a sprinkle of cinnamon, a splash of pure maple syrup/honey, and/or this pure vanilla bean powder (I am obsessed with this new find of mine, for baking too).
Step 4: Blend on high for 1 minute in a blender to get a nice froth. Serve hot.
Sarah’s Magic Morning Latte
Makes 1 serving
Notes: also amazing with a splash of whole, almond or hemp milk and cinnamon. If your coffee/tea is already hot, you can skip the pot and add everything right to the blender.
1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon unrefined coconut oil
1-2 pats organic grass-fed butter
1 scoop grass-fed collagen peptide powder (optional)
1 tiny splash maple syrup or honey (optional)
1 pinch pure vanilla powder (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high for 1 minute to get amazing froth.
Enjoy! If you give this a try, let me know how it goes in the comments below. I adore matcha this way, yerba mate from my french press, espresso, cold brew, coffee, or my little holiday combo with the chocolate mint tea above.
