True story:
My first “real” job after college was the front desk girl at a yoga/wellness studio. Folding towels and checking people in for class, all of which barely had time to look me in the eye.
(Noted to my future self- always, ALWAYS say hi, smile and ask these people about their days).
So, yesterday, on a business coaching call, I was telling my client the full story:
That a month earlier, right after graduation, I had just turned down my (so-I-thought) DREAM job. I had interned for FREE for 3 straight years, all though college to get it. And then, had to turn it down.
Was I crazy? Yes, probably. Worried that I was making a huge mistake? Totally. 100%. I had so many nightmares about it.
But the truth that I couldn’t ignore any longer? There was something in me that just totally deflated and flatlined everytime I thought about taking the path I was “supposed” to take. So neatly lined up in front of me (by me).
My head was saying- wait, are you serious? What about THE PLAN? You cannot be serious right now.
But my heart and a (VERY quiet, VERY timid) instinct was whispering to me: you have to jump in, sweet girl. NOW. To your life.
Later, it won’t even matter how, or where you did. It will only matter that you did, and that you’re willing to get little messy and brave.
That you’re willing to show up to what feels E X P A N S I V E and more interesting in life and take some ACTION – no matter what it looks like to other people.
Or how unglamorous/uncool it is. ESPECIALLY that. Because anything that gets you more aligned with your sweet soul, is always worth it
Why did I tell her all of this yesterday? Because it’s not always pretty, or easy, or even something that’s normally talked about on Instagram or Facebook.
But, behind every successful person I know sharing their love and light with the world, there are YEARS of decisions, and moments just like this these. Weird ones. Stories that would make you die laughing. It’s part of it.
Because ZERO people get their dream life handed to them on a silver platter, without years of undercover hard work and saying YES, LET’S GO anyways.
So, go make your story. Like no one’s watching. Trust and listen in. In your work, in your relationships, and how you show up for yourself and the world.
And above all, don’t waste any more time. These days we get are a gift, so let’s not forget it.️
