How to make your own hemp milk, the super easy way. Watch this 20 second video here! via www.simplyrealhealth.com

I used to think I’d never be that kind of person who makes my own nut milk. Have you ever watched those videos or seen those recipes? It’s like a 2 day, 6 step process. With nut milk bags.

Which – forgive me for being judgy, “nut milk bags” just sounds weird, and I don’t really like saying it out loud.

And also, eho has time for that? Unless you’re drinking nut milk everyday, it seems like a big commitment to make.

And I’ve always thought anyways: most stuff that you need milk for just isn’t that great for you to begin with (cereal, coffee, baked goods, etc). So it’s not the best thing to get hooked on or addicted to, daily. But those are also things I do want to have in my life, so being extreme about it doesn’t help the situation.

I’ve always been more of the mentality that if I wanted some milk for a certain recipe or smoothie, I’d just buy a small carton at the store (always hemp milk, because whole milk, while a total real food just grosses me out (always has), soy is scary sh*t, and almond milk makes my stomach feel weird because I ate way too many banana and almond butter sandwiches in college, and rice milk has a strange texture).

But, have you ever seen those ingredient lists on the cartons?

Even on the “unsweetened” versions of any of those kinds I listed above? They are full of emulsifiers, a few chemicals, sugar and other strange things that I knew weren’t the best- at least as a daily or weekly staple.

Until, I realized how easy it is to make it at home. Watch this (the tiniest video clip yet.. tee hee):

Right?

So easy!

Want to slow that down?

Here is all you need:

Makes 2 cups hemp milk

1 cup of hemp seeds (or almonds or cashews)

2 cups of water

2-3 teaspoons maple syrup or honey.

Add all the ingredients to a good blender (like the Vitamix, Blendtech or Ninja) and blend on high for 1 minute until the mixture is creamy and frothy. Adjust the sweetener as you need to.

Note: don’t have a great blender? You will soon if you’re around here long enough. I hate kitchen appliances and this is my favorite thing in the world for it’s efficiency and how often it gets used. Just soak your nuts/seeds for 3-5 hours before trying to blend them so they soften first.

Other notes: this hemp milk will keep great in the fridge in a closed container for 2-3 days. Just shake it up before you use it.

Or, only make what you need. In smoothies, I just do this step in the blender first, then add my veggies and other stuff after if I don’t need more milk the rest of the week! (pictured below: a double batch)
