Drench me in allllll the goodness please / -my cells.
I admitted my worst fears over on instagram this week: getting sick for the first time in over 10 years.
My ego didn’t like it. For crying out loud body, don’t you know that this is what I do?!
I’m walking, talking proof that if you eat well and take care of yourself, getting sick just isn’t a thing anymore. And if you are, it’s a sign that something else might need a little more love and care in your body or routine.
Honestly, yes….. I do think that.
So it makes it hard to admit that maybe….just maybe I need to re-evaluate how good of a job I’ve been doing this past month, because if I’m being honest I think my grade would be a solid B- at best. Way too many work events, late night book signings, new book writing stressors, etc went down, no matter how hard I tried to still make the time for myself. As is life though in some weeks, right?
Welcome to being human.
So, as with most things that get me down or are not the most ideal, I try find the lesson in it, and as soon as possible. What is this here to teach me?
Oh, that I’m not invincible. That I can’t in fact push it for weeks on end anymore without feeling it, and that come on, get real, rice crackers, brie cheese and a glass of rose isn’t a real dinner that should be in any kind of heavy rotation when there’s a million other things going on.
Ha.
And that if I’m not gonna stop and rest on my own, my body will do it for me. Thanks, bod. You’re right.
So, in the meantime. I’m listening. Taking some notes. Slinking around on the couch and dousing myself in all the essential oils and epsom salt baths that one girl can handle. And eating goodness that will help my body heal the quickest.
Like these, Golden Milk Pots. And golden milk anything, actually because this paste makes it sooo easy to grab a scoop and stir it errrrrr-where.
It just happens to be bonus points that this healing, anti-inflammatory, nutrient infusion powerhouse is happening with pantry staples alone today.
This little recipe is what I always make when I don’t know what else to make— but still want and NEED all the goodness I can get. Because, TRUTH: what you eat matters directly to how you show up in life, and the good stuff doesn’t always have to take a million hours to make.
So, do this with me this week, will ya?
It’s the perfect easy and super-powered breakfast, snack or anything in between. And all make-ahead approved for when life gets a little crazy.
The Golden Milk Pots of Gold
Notes: These keeps great in the fridge for up to 2 weeks! The golden milk paste keeps great for up to 4 weeks in the fridge, sealed and can be used in soups, turmeric lattes and smoothies too.
1/2 cup real coconut milk (the full-fat version from the can, not the scary other stuff)
2-4 teaspoons Golden Milk Paste (or get a pre-bottled version at a place that makes their own)
3-4 tablespoons chia seeds
For the best texture quickly blend the coconut milk and Golden Milk Paste first.
Add mixture to a short glass mason jar with a lid and stir in the chia seeds. Optional to add a splash or two of maple syrup or honey, but honestly, I like it without, and you can always add it later.
Place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes (or overnight) until all the chia seeds absorb the liquid. Top with your favorite toppings (coconut flakes, cocoa nibs, blueberries, etc).
A few bites and there’s no way you won’t be BACK TO GOOD in an instant.
At least, that’s my lil prayer today.
