Have you ever made your own DIY beauty & skincare products? If not, I 10/10 recommend because not only is it sustainable, relaxing and affordable…. it’s also kinda fun?! And it doesn’t take nearly as much time as you might expect.
As long as you have a couple simple, key ingredients, you’re all set— and so are your skin, hair and teeth. (Yup. Teeth! We’re going there.)
I love creating a little ritual out of my DIY beauty & skincare creations. After the babies are in bed and I’m winding down at the end of what are lately *longggg* days, I pull out some of these staple ingredients and get to work.
Except by work, I mean literally applying one or two things— and then letting THEM work their own magic while I soak in the tub or read a good book…. or both, if I’m feeling wild.
It feels like a calm exhale after crazy and full days, and a small way to take care of ourselves even when life tells us we don’t have time. Or the right products. Or enough resources or money to splurge on the “fancy” stuff.
Spoiler alert: you don’t need fancy to care for yourself. You just need a few simple things (some that you might already have in your home) and a few minutes to set aside everything else and just *be* for a little while.
I promise, it’s always worth it.
Best DIY beauty & skincare products
1. My Silky Smooth Skin Face Mask
Aka, the raw honey face mask. Ok, ok, stick with me here— it sounds way messier than it actually is. Honey is a natural enzyme that’s sooo amazing for soft skin. All you need is 2 teaspoons of raw honey. Paint it all over your face and let soak in for at least 20 minutes, then wipe off with a warm washcloth and water. I try to do this once a week and it’s so amazing what it does!
2. The Natural Teeth Cleanser
Truth: actually clean toothpaste is sooo hard to find. For years I’ve been trying and testing anything I come across, and lately I finally have landed on a favorite. And wait for it…. It’s not actually toothpaste. It’s a tooth powder— check it out here.
I know it sounds kind of strange, but the ingredients sold me— it’s made with baking soda, 2 kinds of clay for natural detoxing of your teeth and mouth, and a little hint of essential oil. All you do is dip your wet toothbrush tip into the powder and brush as normal.
Truly, my teeth have never felt more clean or looked more white, so I’m all in. I love the sweet spearmint as a great transition one (it’s more similar to a toothpaste taste), and then peppermint one too (which is not as sweet).
They DO also have a actual toothpaste (right here) that I haven’t tried yet, but could be a great way to start if the powder feels like too far of a stretch outside your comfort zone. 🙂
3. Natural Teeth Whitener
Finding one that’s peroxide and chemical free is kind of impossible….. until now. This tray & set-up has been my new favorite find! See ya, whitestrips that truly damage your teeth and the healthy bacteria in your mouth. I love that this is reusable too, and 100% natural ingredients combined with the powers of blue light.
4. The Best Eyelash & Brow Grower
I absolutely swear by castor oil on a disposable mascara wand at night. MAGIC, friends. Your fuller eyelashes and brows will thank you.
5. The Softest Hair Ever Mask
Does your hair feel dull and dry? (Cough cough, this postpartum mama is raising both hands high over here.) My favorite-ever at-home hair mask is soooo easy, and works like a charm. Melt one tablespoon coconut oil and mix with tablespoon apple cider vinegar. Apply to dry hair from root to tip. Let sit for at least 20 minutes before washing like normal.

DDS here. Please don’t use that toothpaste. It’s very abrasive and thins out your enamel. At first, it may appear that your teeth are getting brighter because it’s sanding down the surface stains on your teeth. But with prolonged use, it’ll thin out your white enamel and will expose the more yellow/orange dentin layer of the tooth…giving you more yellow teeth. This will also cause your teeth to become more sensitive. The best additive product you can use for your teeth is a product with fluoride…which is a natural element! And remember, brushing technique is more important than the toothpaste you use.
