Summertime. Aka, the very best time.
(If you’re asking this totally biased, Seattle based sun-baby).
But come on. How can you not want to shout- halle-freakin-lujah for the season of freedom, joy, sunshine, fresh air, cool water, and a few extra juicy hours each day to play, relax and just BE around those you love the most.
Above all, it’s the season of effortlessness.
Of focusing more on being present, wherever you are. And letting all those to-do’s and lists also just be, knowing that the time and memories you’re making this season are so much more important.
It’s effortless too, with food. Maybe that’s also why it’s my favorite season. Easy is celebrated- so you can get back to the important things like which bathing suit you’re gonna wear to the beach, and what color of rose to bring the the BBQ.
You know, necessities.
Oh… you mean some summer water, my sister will ask?
Exactly.
So why not add in a little extra fun, to whatever your summer entails. Because kids aren’t the only ones that need a little bit of playfulness in their lives this season.
Adult slushies, anyone?
You know, of the classy kind.
Watermelon Frose
Makes 4-6 servings
Notes: Adult shushies anyone? Frose = frozen ROSE. And unlike most recipes that use a ton of simple syrup to sweeten, I love using watermelon juice. Double summer loves, all in one.
1 bottle rose (I prefer the lighter colored ones, looks wise)
12 oz fresh watermelon juice (store bought or homemade by blending and straining out seeds)
Pour both liquids into a large (freezer-proof) bowl at least 24 hours before you want to serve. Remove when ready, break up the pieces with a fork or rubber spatula and scoop into fun glasses.
Serve cold.
