Like souped-up power fairies, straight to the veins. Don’t even tell me I’m the only one that envisions this every time I take a sip of a thoughtfully crafted lil green smoothie.
And while we’re on the topic…. I literally can’t stop with this mid-day combo lately. All the fairies, all the energy, all sustained all afternoon. It’s not for everyone (read: not very sweet),and had quite a few fancy little adaptogens and power boosters, but it’s worth a try if you’re into that kind of stuff.
I love keeping the liquid amount lower (less than 1 cup) and ice higher so I can dig into this frothy baby with a spoon.
Also, I should note: yes, I’m using a bone broth powder (which is a bit more savory) in my smoothie. I know it sounds weird, but the taste is actually kinda great with it. My body doesn’t do great with most grains, peas, hemp, beans and seeds, so most of the plant-based protein powders are out of the picture for me.
I alternate between this Natural Bone Broth one by Ancient Nutrition (also killer in soups so you don’t need to keep buying containers of organic chicken stock), and The Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides (literally, no flavor at all I’m weirding you with my choice above).
The maca is for “life-force” and hormone balancing and nourishing. I buy the gelatized kind because it’s so much easier for the body to process and digest. And organic, for all powders, always.
The spirulina or chlorella are both green superfood algae powders for an amazing detoxifying and energy boost. Chlorella is a complete protein on it’s own, but either are so great to have in your fridge for energy balls, quick smoothies, etc. But, you do you. This is a great base to make your own, however you need to.
The Lunchlady Powerhouse Green Smoothie:
Makes 1 serving
1/2 banana (frozen)
3-4 leafy green kale leaves
8-10 blueberries (optional)
1 teaspoon organic gelatinized maca powder (like this one)
1 teaspoon organic spirulina or sun potion chlorella
1 scoop ancient nutrition bone broth protein powder (pure flavor)
1 splash of coconut milk (optional)
1 cup (or more) water
3 handfuls of ice
Add all ingredients (besides ice) to the blender and blend on high until smooth. Add ice. Pour into 2 large glass jars and go slay your day sister.

Hi, hope all is well. I am not sure if you do eggs or not however, they make a fantastic addition to smoothies, coffee and homemade lattes. Blended of course.

Oo that’s a great tip! I can’t do them, but I think they’re great for others ❤️

This looks AMAZING. I am going to try it next week when my maca and spirulina arrive. Any reason you use kale instead of spinach? I love to get the pre-washed organic spinach because it’s cuts down on time. But if you think kale is preferable, it might change my mind 🙂 Also, does baby kale count or do you recommend lacinato?

spinach works great too!

Hey Sarah! I’ve noticed that you stay away from anything sweetened with monk fruit extract or stevia extract. I use the ancient tradition bone broth protein, but the vanilla flavor. Can you tell me why you avoid those kinds of sweeteners?
Thanks!
Sarah Adler of Simply Real Health says
It’s more personal preference than anything else!

I can’t wait to try this because I also think I have issues with pea protein. How did you even begin to figure that out?

But spinach is very amazing in smoothie:)
